Songs on the Frio is an intimate live music event held along the banks of the Frio River at Rio Bella Resort near Leakey — the kind of show where the setting is as much the draw as the artists themselves. Nashville songwriters from all over the US come together. They talk about their songs and sing them — it is truly a magical night!

It's a weekend-long event with an Arts and Crafts Fair and events all weekend long. Even if you can't find tickets to the actual event, you'll find the songwriters popping up all over town for free, no-tickets-needed events. To close out the weekend, Sunday morning the songwriters come out to Rustic Frio's Rustic Tavern for Sunday gospel and mimosas — no tickets needed!

Terra TX

Utopia Arts & Crafts Fair

The town of Utopia may be small, but its annual Arts & Crafts Fair punches well above its weight. Vendors come from across the region to set up along the town's streets, offering handmade goods, local art, jewelry, woodwork, ceramics, and Texas-made food products.

It's a genuine small-town fair — friendly, unhurried, and full of things you'd actually want to own. The kind of place where you stop to chat with the artist who made what you're holding, and you leave with a story attached to everything you bought. It's always the first Saturday in November from 9am–4pm.

The Frio Trio

If you haven't heard of the Frio Trio, you're in for a treat. This fall event is 3 days and 9 races — from trail runs and night runs to cross country, mountain biking, and a stand-up paddleboard float trip on the Frio. It's for the adventurous!

Lost Maples State Natural Area

For most of the year, Texas doesn't do fall foliage the way New England does. But Lost Maples is the exception — and it's a spectacular one.

Lost Maples State Natural Area, located near Vanderpool (about an hour from Leakey), is home to a rare grove of Uvalde bigtooth maples that turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold in late October and early November. On a clear fall morning, with the canyon walls lit up and the Sabinal River winding below, it's genuinely one of the most beautiful sights in Texas.

A few things to know before you go:

• Reserve your day-use pass in advance. Lost Maples gets very busy during peak color, and entry is limited. Passes sell out fast — book through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system.
• Peak color typically runs late October through mid-November, but it varies by year. Check the Texas Parks & Wildlife website for real-time foliage reports.

• Bring layers. Morning temperatures in the canyon can be significantly cooler than the parking lot. A light jacket and layering pieces from our apparel collection make a big difference.
